How to add the Discus in your Tank
Preparing of the tank:-
-
Reduce the temperature in your tank
-
Reduce your pH Value to 6,0 ; in cause of the transport the pH value falls from about 7 to 6,5, with a pH value of 6 the discus will acclimate much faster
Dicus that have been shipped by forwarder or by airfreight have spent several hours in a dark box. Please avoid opening the box under bright light. Discus eyes are designed for vision in murky waters and bright light can irritate them. In an effort to escape the light the discus may lie down. We recommend leaving the aquarium lights off for 4-5 hours after adding new discus into the tank so that they can adjust their eyes.
Before you open the bags with the Stendker discus, please read the following instructions carefully:
1. Get informed about the water temperature of the transport water by measuring the temperature outside of the bags. Do not open the bags! If the difference of the water temperature between the bags and your tank is more than 4°C please take your time:
2. Fill 2 liters of your tank between the bags in the transport box.(Please do not put the transport bags into your tank) The temperature has to be increased slowly (only 1°C each hour, max. 2°C). If the difference is only 3°C you can open the bags now and fill 1 Liter from your aqaurium into the bags.
3. After 5-10 minutes you have to add the discus fish in your aquarium without the water of the transport bags! If you dare take the discus in your right hand and put the other wet hand upon the body/eye of the discus so that they can slowly slip from your hand into the water.
4. If you have a lot of fresh water in your tank, please prepare it with a special product for water conditioning.
More useful information:
To keep the difference in temperature as low as possible switch off your heating rod 1-2 days before the discus arrive.
If you have a lot of fresh water in your tank you can use a water purifier.
In the winter it's possible that in cause of the outside temperature the transport water will cool down, although we use heat packs. Most fish don't have a problem with a lower temperature and they will not suffer in any kind afterwords. But they can't move as quick as usual so it seems like they are dead. But most times they are not!
In this case please take care of a slow temperature adjustmend. If you do it to fast the discus have no chance and will die!
Thank you for your help to keep the Stendker discus in best shape!
